The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo -Olu, has called for support for the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu, as the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, stating that Lagos and the nation at large have enough reasons to re -elect him.

Sanwo -Olu, who also thanked Ikorodu people for the support they have been given to his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) so far, also added that he was in Ikorodu because of the strategic importance of the division in the next general elections.

The number one man in the state, made the request and assurance at the Ayangbure palace on Thursday, when he accompanied the APC gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, and his campaign team on an official visit to Ikorodu Division.

“Ikorodu is not a small town. It’s a town that is always in the lead. I am here to thank Ikorodu for everything- what people of Ikorodu did yesterday, today and what they will still do for us in future.

“It is because of this that I have to ensure that I am part of the team that will be visiting Ikorodu, even though I have not been visiting other places that the campaign team have been going and I apologise for that”.

While stating that his visit to the Dangote refinery caused his lateness to Ikorodu, Gov. Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of re -election of President Tinubu, and also added that there is need to sustain the gains of his administration.

“I was late to Ikorodu because I had to visit the refinery (Dangote refinery) which is the biggest in the world. That is not the end of it, but another decision has been taken to build another one beside it. The new refinery will be on the same production line and when its built, it will be twice better.

“What are the implications of this new development? From the World Economic Forum and World Global Youth meetings that I attended at the refinery; we are going to be training others from other parts of Africa in Lagos. 50 of them from all over African are currently being trained.

“The whole of Africa will be coming to Lagos for training: to learn from your state and our country as an example to the world”.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu recalled that the whole of Lekki free zone was developed when President Bola Tinubu was the Governor of Lagos State, and he was then a Commissioner. He added that they came up with the idea of the Lekki Free Zone after a trip to China.

“The refinery has gulped over ₦20billion and now in the process of building another one. You can see the consequential development of the progress.

“From Marina to the refinery, we did not spend up to 40minutes and this is all about the person that build the refinery which has made it possible for people to come to us all over the globe.

“Even if we are not appreciating him, global investors are appreciating him. We are talking about the person that has brought about the development that has given our state and country high prestige.

“Let’s us imagine what would be if he’s given the opportunity to return. What he has been able to do is something that we can feel, touch, demonstrate and use to campaign.

“The  President is also rebuilding the airport that has been built for about 50 years”, he added.

Re-emphasising the importance of Ikorodu, Gov. Sanwo -Olu urged political leaders and residents to deliver on the pledged 250,000 votes, and assured that all the demand of the division would be met.

“So, I am banking on the 250, 000 votes that Ikorodu has promised us and the assurance that leaders have given us that Ikorodu is united in this regard.

“Once we scaled through the Presidential election, the governorship will just be a consequential one and we have a lot to campaign with. We must stand firm for the Presidential votes and also for the Senatorial and that of the House of Representatives. In fact, your MHR (Rep. Babajimi Benson), always boast in Abuja that he’s going to maintain the highest votes by any federal constituency in Nigeria.

“So, we are here to thank you and enjoin you to canvass for us and after the elections, we are going to implement all your demands including the number of cabinet members that you have requested for”, he assured.

Gov. Sanwo -Olu also confirmed that Ikorodu will also get a food hub bigger than those that has been constructed across the state.

“We are going to have a food hub in Ikorodu bigger than others that we are building”
